Welcome back to a Monday in preschool...it's been awhile!
A couple reminders...
Valentines to give to friends...Our class will have our valentine parties on Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12. Prior to the parties, each child will be making a valentine bag, at school. Please have your child prepare 18 valentines at home (1 for each child in the class) and bring them on 2/11 or 2/12. See email sent on Friday, 1/16 with additional details and tips!
There is NO school on Friday, 2/13 for teacher professional development and Monday, 2/16 in observation of Presidents’ Day.
Here we go...
While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend began his/her day with a special check-in! Each child completed his/her "February My Name" for his/her portfolio. All friends were asked to try writing his/her name without using his/her name tag! We have come a long way since August! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :
pencil grip
right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory
Lincoln was hard at work decorating his birthday crown for next week!
We quickly noticed during morning meeting that our January pie graph had been filled in! It was fun to see that January was almost the same as December...just a little more sunny and a little less cloudy! Comparing and understanding more, less, and the same are early math skills...
Wiggle worms arrived with penguins and lowercase letters! If a wiggle worm was picked...well, you know...let's wiggle!!! (And, it's still hard to stop when Mrs. Mudd says freeze. Good practice in self regulation)
If a penguin was picked...give the letter name and the letter sound (early literacy skills).
Science time!!!
Two weeks ago we searched for pictures of different kinds of boats on the smart board. We noticed there were some things that were the same, but each boat actually looked quite different. After exploring each boat, each friend drew a picture of the boat they would like to make.
Finally, today each friend got to make a boat out of aluminum foil...
We changed to our boots and had a BLAST in the snow for large motor time!!!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Valentine's day around the corner, we talked as a group about "people we love". Here is what we came up with today!
We tested..."Will your boat float?" YES...they ALL floated!!!
Finally...we asked, "How many pennies will your boat hold before it sinks?" Our boats held anywhere from 7 to 43 pennies before sinking!!!
We noticed that the bigger the bottom of the boat, especially if it had side walls, the more pennies it would hold!
With Mrs. Fahey, we worked on a 3D project...making snowmen with marshmallows, glue, markers, and toothpicks! We had so much fun...little did they know they were learning to follow multi-step directions and improving small motor control!
We remembered that not only can we listen to and sing music, we can also dance to it!!! Time for a little dance party to Jim Gill songs!
Oh the cheers when we found out we were going outside again for more large motor time!
During Jesus time today, Zippy helped us remember that God always provides for us. He gives us food and drink, clothes and home, help when we are sick, and a family to love us! And He gave us Jesus to care for us and to take away our sins!
