We had a good start to our week!
Three quick reminders...
Our Preschool Advent Service is Saturday, December 16 at 5:00 pm in the Zion Church sanctuary. We will worship together and celebrate the birth of Jesus through word and songs sang by our Preschool students. If your child will NOT be able to attend our Advent Service on 12/16, please let me know (via email) as soon as possible. Please plan to meet the class at 4:45 pm in Zion’s church basement (There will be someone there to direct you to the correct room upon arrival to the church basement). Once you drop off your child with his/her teacher(s), you may then go find a seat in the sanctuary. There will be an opportunity for class photos after the service. Once our class photo has been taken, each child will return to his/her parents.
11:50 Dismissal on Thursday, December 21…Our class will dismiss at 11:50 on this day to begin Christmas break. There is NO aftercare option, please make arrangements to pick up your child at 11:50. We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack.
There is NO school Friday, December 22 - Tuesday, January 2…blessings on your Christmas Holiday! (school resumes on Wednesday, January 3, 2024).

To wrap up morning meeting, some of our friends took turns rolling the dice, recognizing/counting the number of dots, then finding that number on our "positional words" paper. (Quantifying, connecting numerals to their quantities and understanding positional words are early math skills)
Then...can you guess what each friend rolled?
The weather, once again, did not cooperate early this morning. So, we headed to the commons to get our bodies moving...
Time for a little science!!!
We were excited to see that Scientist Mudd had left us an experiment with candy canes! There were 3 glasses of water and 3 candy canes. One glass had hot water, one had warm water, and one had cold (ice) water. We observed that all 3 candy canes were the same.
Each friend then predicted which cup of water would dissolve (or melt) the candy cane the fastest...
"Hot" had the most with 9 votes, while "warm" had the least with 1 vote!
Time to test our predictions!
Scientist Mudd put one candy cane in each of the glasses. We noticed right away that the hot water was fizzing and turning red, while the cold water had barely changed. Before we knew it the candy cane in the hot water was almost completely dissolved!
We checked again while at our first center. We decided that the warm water candy cane was all white, while the cold water one still had a couple red stripes on it! We predicted that the warm water candy cane would dissolve next!
Once center time was over, we gathered around to see what had happened while we were hard at work! All 3 candy canes had dissolved! We learned that any type of water (hot, warm, or cold) can dissolve things, but the hot water will dissolve the fastest and the cold with dissolve the slowest!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We improved scissor cutting skills as we cut Christmas wrapping paper and ribbon into small pieces! We can then use these small pieces to create with as it gets a bit closer to Christmas!
We improved our writing (and reading) skills as we wrote in our journals. Our friends were excited about the new Christmas words that we added to our word wall last week!
Then...we did 2 other centers...but, they are TOP SECRET! (You might get to find out about them on Christmas Day?!?!?)
The rain was gone, and with only a few puddles...we headed outside!
During Jesus Time Zippy arrived, telling us how he is sometimes afraid of the dark. We helped Zippy to remember that Jesus is always with you, even when it's dark. We then heard the story of when God lit up the darkness for the shepherds on the night Jesus was born! An angel appeared and lit the sky, bringing "good news of a great joy." They found out that Jesus had been born in Bethlehem and went as fast as they could to see the new Savior. Jesus came to be the light for each one of us. He is the light of the world, and will always be with us, no matter what!
