We had a great Thursday in preschool!
While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend not here yesterday began his/her day with a special check-in! Each child completed his/her "January My Name" for his/her portfolio. All friends were asked to try writing his/her name without using his/her nametag! Most were able to write his/her name without the help of the nametag. Others were able to begin, but needed his/her nametag to finish. We did GREAT! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory

Barrett worked on his birthday crown that he will get to wear next week!
We loved that Tricky Mouse came to visit us again today! But, today he brought numbers 1 - 12. He couldn't fool us, we knew all the numbers and found him every time! Recognizing/identifying numbers is an early math skill.
We bundled up and headed to chapel, led by Pastor Rouland. We learned that today is the last day of Christmas, Epiphany. We found stars around the church to remind us that Jesus was born our Savior, to eventually die on the cross to save us from our sins!
Scientist Mudd came to visit again today! Today she brought a glass jar filled with tap water and some skittles.
She asked the question, "What will happen when skittles are dropped in water?" Then each child made his/her prediction...
A few friends helped drop each skittle into the water...
First we discovered that skittles sink (some predicted this)!
Second, just after a few minutes, we noticed the color was "disappearing" from the skittles and was in the water like a rainbow (someone predicted this too)!
Third, we found out that once the color disappears from the outside of a skittle, they are white on the inside!
Finally, when centers were complete, we checked again...and the skittles had completely dissolved!
The feels like temp was too cold for any of Zion to have outside time...so...we enjoyed getting our bodies moving to some fun dancing songs!

With Mrs. Mudd we completed our special art project for National Lutheran Schools week that is coming soon. Each friend improved small motor control as he/she wiped off all of the dried salt and removed all 10 star stickers! Each friend revealed his/her "Starry Night" masterpiece!
With Mrs. Dose we practiced forming and writing letters correctly! But, we didn't use a pencil and paper, we used salt. This allowed for better control than trying to manipulate a pencil to write! But, before we could write them, our friends had to tell her what the letter was and the sound it makes!
On our own we improved small motor control, strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles, and worked on 1-to-1 correspondence. We made tiny "snowballs" out of playdoh and placed 1 snowball in each of the parts of an ice cube tray. We decided that if we filled each spot with 1 snowball, each friend would have to make 16 snowballs!
What 's better than a "Frozen" dance party?!?!? We improved large motor control as we danced to songs from the "Frozen" soundtrack!
We discovered some new, and we still love some old dancing songs! Round 2 to get out those wiggles before lunch...
