We sure are thankful for Thursdays!
We had a couple that still needed to complete their special check-in today..."November My Name"! While each friend wrote his/her name I took note of pencil grip, copying name or writing name from memory, letter knowledge, etc. Our friends are getting better and better each month!!!
After a bit of trial and error, we figured out how to get the ball to roll back to us without it going under the smart board or bookshelf!
We are so excited and proud to make shapes out of rubber bands!
We finished up morning meeting with Wiggle Worm...he is back!!! Today he brought with him uppercase letters on milk cups. If wiggle worm was picked from the bag...everybody WIGGLE, then stop! Having to stop is tough, but it helps us learn self regulation!
If a letter is picked, that friend told everyone the letter name and the letter sound!
Today we introduced the letters "H" and "T"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, big line down, little line across for the "H" and big line down, little line across the top for the "T"! Then we came up with words that start with "H" and "T"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "H" or "T" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "H" or "T", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "H" and "T" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Another crisp, sunny morning to enjoy playing outside!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me we practiced connecting numbers to their quantities (early math skill). At the bottom of each section of an egg carton was a number. Each child counted out that number of bowtie pasta and placed in that section of the egg carton. Success for some was being able to complete 1 - 6. Success for others was being able to complete 1 - 12.
With Mrs. Dose, each child painted a unique piece using fresh corn on the cob as his/her painting tool!
Each friend improved writing/drawing skills as they wrote/drew about something fun they did for Halloween!
We combined some large motor activity with identifying letters and their sounds (early literacy skill). As each child stepped over a letter on a milk cup (while staying on the balance beam), he/she said the letter name and the sound it makes.
And...after all that hard work, free to run and play outside!
During Jesus Time today we learned about the Ten Commandments:
The First Commandment says to love God with our whole heart.
The Second Commandment says to say God's name and speak of Him with respect.
The Third Commandment says we are to listen to God's Word in the Bible and worship Him in church.
The Fourth Commandment tells us to obey our mothers and fathers. (and all leaders)
The Fifth Commandment tells us we should not kill anyone. (or even hurt them in any way)
The Sixth Commandment tells us we should respect and be kind to one another.
The Seventh Commandment tells us to not steal.
The Eighth Commandment tells us that God wants us to speak kindly to other people.
The Ninth Commandment tells us that God wants us to be happy with what we have and be happy for the blessings that other people have.
The Tenth Commandment tells us that God wants us to love, respect, and be kind to all people.
We remembered that we should try to follow God's rules, but if we forget and make a poor choice He still loves us and forgives us!
