Welcome to our Wednesday...the 1st day of Preschool for 6 of our friends!
Finley concentrates as she checks in for the day, writing her name!
Not only do the children have to recognize his/her name, they also get practice writing his/her name. It's okay if the letters are a bit tough to recognize or if he/she needs a hand to guide them...we are learning how to form letters!
We started our morning with free choice time! The children were able to choose his/her activities while all of our friends arrived and began learning our check-in routine! Free choice it a great time for me to learn each child's interests and to interact with other children in an informal setting!
Thomas continued expressing his creativity by adding to the art piece he started yesterday!
Did you know that Finley is not only creating, she is strengthening her finger, wrist and hand muscles by squeezing the glue bottle and working on small motor control picking up those tiny pieces of paper?
Great tower built by these young ladies!!! Blocks are a fantastic way to improve eye-hand coordination.
You know it's a good day in preschool...if it's messy ;o)
Will is working to fit the gears together on the magnet board...fun way to practice spatial awareness.
Aiden enjoyed dramatic play with horses today. This type of play enables children to practice language and social skills.
More creativity in the classroom...Ava create a masterpiece!
I overheard Syler as he was playing with the large tubes. "Look Will, this one is the biggest and this one is the smallest." A great way to practice the early math skill of comparing and measuring while playing!
Gibson worked his small motor control as he made a "pan of brownies" out of legos!
Ben decided to get in on comparing, we noticed that his was not the biggest or smallest, but it was in the middle!
Korrinne and Rory practiced recognizing numbers...an early math skill.
Yay for outside time!!! We worked our large motor skills as we climbed, rode bikes and ran, ran, ran!
During Morning Meeting, each child picked a class job! Gibson did a fantastic job as our calendar helper.
Finley, our snack helper, practiced learning our friends names as she called them to go wash hands before snack time.
Another fine job, this time by Ava, our caboose.
It's a tough job holding the heavy doors, but Aiden aced it!
Our librarian, Savannah, made a great choice for story time today!
Korrinne helped make our tables shine, as our table washer for today!
During circle time today, we did a fun little science experiment. I had five items that made different sounds when I moved them. (For our friends that were here yesterday they did a great job keeping our activity a secret.) We all closed our eyes and had to guess which item was making that sound! They did awesome...I could not fool them today! Listening is an important science and life skill. It is part of making observations. So, this activity helped us practice our listening skills, so we can all become better listeners.
We started center time by splitting into 4 small groups.
With me, each child created a special art piece for his/her first day of preschool! If he/she was here yesterday, he/she colored a fun picture that reminded us to be joyful always.
With Mrs. Dose we strengthened our finger, wrist and hand muscles (we need strong muscles to become successful writers) and practiced our patterning skills (an early math skill). We had to put the blocks together in a pattern. Success for some was finishing a pattern that Mrs. Dose started. For others, success was copying a pattern that Mrs. Dose created, and for others he/she was able to create his/her own pattern!
We used blocks to build a house or our school. Building with blocks is a wonderful way to express creativity.
We worked on spatial awareness while putting puzzles together.
During Jesus Time, our friend Zippy came to meet the class! Zippy reminded us that God made the world. He made every one of us, He made us special, and He loves us ALWAYS!!!!
We had the chance to go to the gym to work our large motor skills. What a blast mastering the hula hoop and practicing throwing and catching balls!
As we finish setting up cots for rest time, the directions were to go to the carpet and read a book. Look at all these GREAT listeners and readers. They may not know what the words say, but they are learning that print has meaning and practicing the early skills needed to become lifelong readers.
Finally, Rory got to practice his friends names, as he called names to wash hands for lunch!
