We had a great Tuesday in preschool!
A couple of reminders first...
There is NO school this Monday, January 17 in observation of Martin Luther King Jr Day.
2022/23 Registration for ELP, Preschool, and Kindergarten…Registration opened Wednesday, January 5 at 9:00 am for current Zion families wishing to register for ELP, Preschool, or Kindergarten. You should have received an email from Zion with a link to register. We encourage families registering for our Early Childhood Programs to register early in order to reserve your preferred days (Please complete enrollment before February 1 to secure your spot for the upcoming year). The $200/child enrollment fee will be charged to your account on February 15.
Onto our day...
While others enjoyed free choice time, each friend found out if he/she was taller, shorter, or the same height as our snowman.
So far "taller" has the most and "the same" has the least!
To wrap up morning meeting, we each took a turn voting on a name for our snowman. The two names we voted on were Suzy Q and Sneezy.
After today's vote we decided that Sneezy has the most (so far). We didn't even have to count (even though we did). We knew Sneezy had more since the line of stickers was taller! Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill.
Pastor Fieberkorn led chapel today, reminding us of many miracles found in the Bible, that only one person could ever do...Jesus!
Today we introduced the letter "J" and number "3"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve at the bottom, then little line at the top (give it a hat) to write a "J" and little curve, little curve to write a "3"! Then we came up with words that start with "J" and found "3's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "J" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "J", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
We bundled up and enjoyed large motor time on the preschool playground!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Dose, we discovered our snowmen had lost their buttons! Each friend took a turn rolling the dice and stated/counted the numbers of dots. Then, each friend added that number of buttons to his/her snowman! The ability to quantify and count out that number of items are early math skills!
With Mrs. Mudd, we completed part 1 of a winter scene. Today we expressed creativity using paper, paint, and cookie cutters to make a snowman and some stars.
We improved our sorting skills and strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles. We used tongs/tweezers to pick up pom pom balls and sort them by color into 3 different containers!
Finally...we had a few snowmen that needed help getting back in order from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest. So, we gave a lending hand and did just that! The ability to compare and order a small set of objects by size is an early math skill!
We were blessed to have the sun out, and a bit warmer weather outside! Time to get the wiggles out...
