Tuesday, December 4, 2018

We sure did enjoy this snowy Tuesday!

Two quick reminders...

12:00 Dismissal on Friday, December 21School will dismiss at 12:00 on this day to begin Christmas Break.  There is NO half day care option, please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:00 this day.  We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack.

There is NO school Monday, December 24 - Wednesday, January 2…blessings on your Christmas Holiday! (school resumes on Thursday, January 3, 2019).

On to our day...

Many friends improved writing/drawing skills as they painted a Christmas picture!

While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend (not here yesterday) began his/her day with a special check-in!  Each child completed his/her "December My Name" for his/her portfolio.  Almost everyone was able to write his/her first name from memory and some were able to write his/her entire name from memory!  While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

pencil grip
right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory
did he/she know the letters in own name

Friends having a little fun before reading to each other!

Emmett enjoyed having the fire/police station all to himself for dramatic play (but, friends soon joined in on the fun)!

Will improved hand-eye coordination as he created with legos...

And...time to play house! What a perfect way for children to act out feelings and emotions in a comfortable setting!

As another month passed us by...we got to check out another pie graph!  Right away our friends noticed there was red (snow) on November's graph, that wasn't on any other month!  We also noticed, we sure did have a lot of cloudy days in November, we had the most of those!  Then, someone realized there was no blue for November when comparing to some other months.

We then finished up morning meeting with Wiggle Worm...he is back!!!  Today he brought with him uppercase letters on snowflakes.  If wiggle worm was picked from the bag...everybody WIGGLE, then stop!  Having to stop is tough, but it helps us learn self regulation!

If a letter is picked, that friend told everyone the letter name and the letter sound!

With all that pretty snow, we headed to the commons for large motor time...

Today we introduced the letter "S" and number "2"!

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then little curve, turn, little curve to write an "S" and big curve, little line at the bottom to write a "2"! Then we came up with words that start with "S" and found "2's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "S" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "S", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "S" and "2" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

Time for small groups (centers)!

We improved scissor cutting skills as we cut Christmas wrapping paper into small pieces!  We can then use these small pieces to create with as it gets a bit closer to Christmas!

We improved our writing (and reading) skills as we wrote in our journals.  Our friends were excited about the new Christmas words that we added to our word wall last week!

Then...we did 2 other centers...but, they are TOP SECRET! (You might get to find out about them on Christmas Day?!?!?)

After our hard work, especially our "top secret" centers, we headed to the gym!

Wesleigh took a few pictures before getting her wiggles out...

During Jesus Time today Zippy visited a little worried and scared about becoming a big brother.  We reminded him that sometimes when things make us scared or sad, we can look to God for help.  God knows what's best.  He can turn our fear in to joy just like he did with the shepherds when the angel came to them in the night, telling of Jesus' birth.
