We enjoyed our Thursday in preschool!
A bit of planning and working together to decide what exactly was going to be played at the fire/police station this morning!
Will and Abby began working right where they left off yesterday...time to build another house!
Cora decided to build another house next door...they needed a neighbor.
Hudson and Grant worked SO hard building with candy construction today. They both followed the directions in the books to build something just like the picture!
And...a little bow tie FUN!
Many then settled in to creating with marker, paper, and glue...ALL from our good junk baskets!
Max had some time to create a desert this morning...
We finished morning meeting with our friend the gingerbread man. One friend at a time came to the front as I read a page of our gingerbread book! Each page gave our gingerbread man a positional word or direction on where he was supposed to run! Each friend's job was to place the gingerbread man in the correct place in relation to the gingerbread house. Understanding spatial relationships and positional words are early math skills.
Large motor time outside was as great as always!
We enjoyed two Christmas books!
The first was a silly book all about trying to catch one of Santa's helper elves. Maybe you could try to make an elf trap at home and try it out on Christmas Eve!
The second book, God Bless Our Christmas, was to remind us the reason for the season, Jesus' birthday!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me, we improved our rhyming skills! Each card had a snowflake on it, each snowflake had a picture on it! Each friend had to find the match to his/her picture. But, the pictures weren't the same! The match was a picture that rhymed with his/her picture! Rhyming is an early literacy skill. Success for some was having me help find the rhyme. Success for others was having a friend help find the match. While, success for some was finding the rhyming match on his/her own!
Since Christmas is now just 12 days away, it was perfect to have a Veggie Tales Christmas dance party! Check out these large motor skill moves!
We found a lot of candy canes! Some tiny, some big, and some in between! Each friends job was to sequence his/her candy canes in order from smallest to biggest, or biggest to smallest! The ability to compare and measure is an early math skill.
With Mrs. Dose we "rolled a Christmas tree"! Each friend was given a picture of a tree with the numbers 1 - 6. Each number had the picture of a different colored ornament or a star next to it. Each friend took a turn rolling the dice, stated or counted the number of dots. He/she found that number on his/her paper, then added that color ornament/star to his/her Christmas tree! Identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to their quantity is an early math skill!
And...we headed outside for large motor time again...we even survived the sprinkles ;o)
During Jesus Time today Zippy was waiting and waiting for a present from his grandma, he was afraid she would not keep her promise. But, it was finally delivered...to our classroom! Anna and Simeon waited and waited for God to keep his promise. And He did...sending Jesus to the world!
We remembered that God keeps his promises...He gives us what we need!
