We had a wonderful Tuesday in preschool!
A few reminders...
Preschool and Kindergarten Christmas Service…is this Sunday, December 11 at 4:00 pm in Zion’s sanctuary (we will meet in Zion’s fellowship hall, lower level, at 3:45 pm). We will worship together and celebrate the birth of Jesus through songs, pictures, and words spoken by our Preschool and Kindergarten students!
12:00 Dismissal on Thursday, December 22…School will dismiss at 12:00 on this day to begin Christmas Break. There is NO half day care option, please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:00 this day. We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack.
There is NO school Friday, December 23 - Tuesday, January 3…blessings on your Christmas Holiday! (school resumes on Wednesday, January 4, 2017).
On to our day...
Our friends not here yesterday began their morning with a special check-in..."How Many Gingerbread Cookies Tall Are You?" Each friend was measured in gingerbread cookies (using and understanding non-standard forms of measurement is an early math skill)!
Then each friend found that same number on our graph. Once he/she found the number, he/she practiced writing his/her name on a vertical writing surface! EVERYONE wrote without his/her name tag today!!!
With just 1 friend left to measure in gingerbread cookies, we decided that 11 "cookies" has the most with 9 friends while 10 "cookies" has the least with 3 friends! Being able to compare and understanding more, less, and the same are early math skills.
These 3 young ladies are at "school" where Brooke is the teacher! They decided to bring their animal friends with them, to help them learn! A great way to interact with peers in a comfortable setting!
Elliot, Joshua, and Emily planned and worked together building...Santa's castle!
These friends were hard at work, improving small motor control. They let me know that they were creating a machine. I asked them to tell me about what the machine can do. After a few minutes, they decided that it is was a machine that can do anything you want!!!
A few friends decided to create from a blank canvas...improving writing and drawing skills!
Then...instead of small groups (centers) today, we had our second practice with all of preschool and kindergarten...for our Christmas program! We did AWESOME and our friends can't wait to "perform" for you!
Science Time!!
Scientist Mudd arrived and began making a solution with water, ammonia, bluing, and salt!
Then we stirred and stirred and stirred!!!
Scientist Mudd asked each friend (not here yesterday) what he/she thought would happen when we put a cardboard tree in the solution (without green food coloring today, we are going to compare the 2 trees to see if the green food coloring used yesterday made the tree different)...
Once again, scientist Mudd tricked the class! Nothing happened, it just sat there! Today we learned that some times things don't happen right away, we have to be patient and keep checking our tree over the next few days!
Luckily, we had yesterdays tree to take a sneak peak today, not having to wait until tomorrow!
Look what happened by waiting 24 hours...
We learned that when the solution begins to evaporate (disappear), it leaves behind the salt as a small crystal that forms to look like teeny, tiny trees (ours is blue green because of the food coloring)!
We ventured to the "big kid" playground for some much needed outside, large motor play!
Then...we had a bit more time before lunch, so we enjoyed more large motor time in the gym...practicing our basketball skills!
During Jesus Time today we learned of the angel that appeared to the shepherds to share a special message from God. The angel told the shepherds that Jesus, the Savior, had been born that night and this special baby would grow up to save the whole world from sin. We remembered that Christmas is more than getting presents, it is a celebration of Jesus birthday! The best gift EVER!
