Welcome to our Thursday in preschool!!!
Jack and Elliot planned and worked together as they built the great wall of cups!!!
Claire and Laina were busy picking food from their garden...so far they had pickles, blueberries, and marshmallows ;o) (they wish marshmallows really grew in a garden)
Look at all the creativity and small motor activity taking place at one table...deciding what to make, cutting, tearing, gluing, and taping!!!
Emma and Reese took a turn with the cups...check out their oval house!
We headed to chapel led by Mrs. Linneman (straight off the Polar Express...hence the PJ's)!
She needed some volunteers to ring the bells...Emma did a great job! When you ring a bell it makes such a happy sound! The little ball inside is what helps make that happy sound. But, what happens when you cover the bell with your hand, then ring it??? It makes a dull sound. We shouldn't cover up the true meaning of Christmas with worrying about gifts or parties...instead remember that Jesus is the reason for the season and have a happy heart!
We finished morning meeting with our friend the gingerbread man. One friend at a time came to the front as I read a page of our gingerbread book! Each page gave our gingerbread man a positional word or direction on where he was supposed to run! Each friend's job was to place the gingerbread man in the correct place in relation to the gingerbread house. Understanding spatial relationships and positional words are early math skills.
Today we introduced the letter "G" and number "1"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big curve, little line to write a "G" and big line down to write a "1"! Then we came up with words that start with "G" and found "1's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "G" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "G", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "G" and "1" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me, we improved our rhyming skills! Each card had a snowflake on it, each snowflake had a picture on it! Each friend had to find the match to his/her picture. But, the pictures weren't the same! The match was a picture that rhymed with his/her picture! Rhyming is an early math skill. Success for some was having me help find the rhyme. Success for others was having a friend help find the match. While, success for some was finding the rhyming match on his/her own!
Since Christmas is now just 10 days away, it was perfect to have a Veggie Tales Christmas dance party! Check out these large motor skill moves!
We found a lot of candy canes! Some tiny, some big, and some in between! Each friends job was to sequence his/her candy canes in order from smallest to biggest, or biggest to smallest! The ability to compare and measure is an early math skill.
With Mrs. Dose we "rolled a Christmas tree"! Each friend was given a picture of a tree with the numbers 1 - 6. Each number had the picture of a different colored ornament or a star next to it. Each friend took a turn rolling the dice, stated or counted the number of dots. He/she found that number on his/her paper, then added that color ornament/star to his/her Christmas tree! Identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to their quantity is an early math skill!
We are still LOVING basketball (whether with real basketballs or kickballs) in the gym...each day I am hearing more and more..."I made a BASKET!!!"
