Hello from Mrs. Mudd's preschool class!
We sure are enjoying watching our larva get bigger and bigger. They are still pretty tiny, but they sure have grown in to some crazy looking little critters!
We are patiently waiting for some to begin moving to stage 3 of metamorphosis, the pupa stage!
Claire worked hard as she put together a new manipulative, Interlox. These not only improve small motor control, they also improve problem solving skills!
A couple of friends were excited to create with the yarn that was cut up from rescuing our pets on Monday and Tuesday!
We dug in and began creating our pet store today. First we had to sort our puppets into 2 groups, "puppets" and "not puppets"!
Then...we worked hard sorting the new coins and bills for our new cash register!
Tricky Mouse was back and he brought squirrels with letters on them. That silly mouse thought that squirrels could be pets and live in our classroom! We let tricky mouse know that squirrels have to live outside in the trees! We did do a great job of identifying/recognizing letter names and sounds to find that tricky mouse (each time he hid from us)!
We enjoyed a great chapel service led by Mrs. Kuhlmann's 3rd grade class. First, they acted out the story of Jesus feeding the 5000 people to make sure we remembered the story.
Then, they acted out a couple of skits for us. These taught us that Jesus will always take care of us and will always provide what we need!
Today we introduced the letter "Z"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then little line across, big line down diagonal, little line across to write a "Z"! Then we came up with words that start with "Z"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "Z" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "Z", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "Z" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
As we continue our project on pets, we needed to find out what questions each friend has about pets. Mrs. Mudd took dictation as each friend told her what he/she wants to learn about pets!
Our bunnies (with numbers on them) returned this week. We learned that some people do have bunnies as pets, but these bunnies were going to help us practice our numbers and counting! With Mrs. Dose, each friend was given a bunny, told her the number on it, then fed his/her bunny that number of jelly beans. We decided that real bunnies should not eat jelly beans, that would not be healthy!
We helped Emily Elizabeth's pet, Clifford, put his ABC puzzle back together again! A great way to plan and work together while improving spatial awareness and recognizing letters.
After all that hard work we needed to RUN!!!!!
And...after all that running...we needed to REST!!!
