What a Wednesday we had in preschool!
Those not here yesterday, began their morning with a special check-in..."How Many Gingerbread Cookies Tall Are You?" Each friend was measured in gingerbread cookies (using and understanding non-standard forms of measurement is an early math skill)!
Then each friend found that same number on our graph. Once he/she found the number, he/she practiced writing his/her name on a vertical writing surface!
Many spent their morning making different creations with candy construction, often with stories to go along! The possibilities are endless...

We finished up morning meeting with Wiggle Worm...he is back!!! Today he brought with him uppercase letters on snowflakes. If wiggle worm was picked from the bag...everybody WIGGLE, then stop! Having to stop is tough, but it helps us learn self regulation!
If a letter is picked, that friend told everyone the letter name and the letter sound!
The crazy wind had us visiting the commons for large motor time this morning...
Today we introduced the letter "G" and number "1"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big curve, little line to write a "G" and big line down to write a "1"! Then we came up with words that start with "G" and found "1's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "G" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "G", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "G" and "1" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me, we improved our rhyming skills! Each card had a snowflake on it, each snowflake had a picture on it! Each friend had to find the match to his/her picture. But, the pictures weren't the same! The match was a picture that rhymed with his/her picture! Rhyming is an early literacy skill. Success for some was having me help find the rhyme. Success for others was having a friend help find the match. While, success for some was finding the rhyming match on his/her own!
Since Christmas is now just 15 days away, it was perfect to have a Veggie Tales Christmas dance party! Check out these large motor skill moves!
We found a lot of candy canes! Some tiny, some big, and some in between! Each friend's job was to sequence his/her candy canes in order from smallest to biggest, or biggest to smallest! The ability to compare and measure is an early math skill.
With Mrs. Fahey we "rolled a Christmas tree"! Each friend was given a picture of a tree with the numbers 1 - 6. Each number had the picture of a different colored ornament or a star next to it. Each friend took a turn rolling the dice, stated or counted the number of dots. He/she found that number on his/her paper, then added that color ornament/star to his/her Christmas tree! Identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to their quantity is an early math skill!
So excited to "hoop it up" in the gym...
During Jesus Time today we remembered the story of the angels appearing and singing "Glory to God in the Highest". The shepherds were not afraid anymore, they were filled with joy as they ran to Bethlehem to tell everyone of the Savior's birth! A baby sent to save us from our sins!
