Two quick reminders...

Can you believe it's already April!!!
Each friend began his/her day with a special check-in! Each child completed his/her "April My Name" for his/her portfolio. Each friend was asked to try writing his/her first name without using his/her nametag! All were successful, some using nametags, some without his/her nametag!!! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :
pencil grip
right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory
To wrap up morning meeting there were 7 Easter items, but some looked the same except for being a different color! We studied them, reviewed the colors, and locked them in our brain. Then, I covered them with a blanket and took 2 away...what was missing? Recognizing and recalling is an early cognitive skill.
We LOVED a short concert by Zion's Junior High Band, on this Music Monday!
Today we introduced the letter "N"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, back to the top and big line diagonal down, big line up to write an "N"! Then we came up with words that start with "N"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "N" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "N", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "N" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We improved small motor control and hand-eye coordination as we weaved strings in and out of lacing cards!
We "picked a rabbit, any rabbit". Each friend took a turn choosing a rabbit, turned it over to reveal a number, and said the number aloud. Then, Mrs. Mudd gave them an activity to complete that number of times.
We improved our rhyming and spatial reasoning skills as we made little puzzles with words/pictures that rhyme!
With Mrs. Dose we improved fine motor skills as we placed beads in a pattern on toothpicks in playdoh. Success for some was finishing a pattern that Mrs. Dose started. Success for others was creating and continuing a pattern on his/her own.
After an action packed morning...we enjoyed some well deserved large motor time on the playground!
Cody returned the favorite book bag today! He shared with us "Otis". We loved hearing from Cody about his favorite part of the book, and seeing his drawings. We then enjoyed listening as Mrs. Mudd read it to the class!
This activity is one way to encourage the love of reading. Also, this activity allows the children (and teacher) to be introduced to new books! Furthermore, it helps to continue to build home and school connections!
During Jesus Time we thought back to Good Friday and what it really meant for Jesus to die on that cross. He let those thing happen to Him because of His love for us. HE DID IT ALL FOR US!
