We had a great Thursday in preschool!
Our caterpillars are getting so BIG!!!
We are excited to see when they will enter their next phase, pupa (chrysalis)!
We tried out our new "listening center" again today. We learned to listen for the special sound that tells us when to turn the page! During free choice, for the rest of the school year, the listening center will be open for one child at a time to "read" a book on CD using headphones! A great opportunity to listen to a book, while following along with the written text! Also fantastic for self regulation and learning to following directions. Having to wait and listen for the special sound to know when it's time to turn the page is hard work! But, what a fun way to start a life long love of reading! If a friend wants a turn at the listening center, he/she places his/her name tag on the table so we know who is next!
Animal lego BINGO got a bit harder today! The animals are now made of different colors, so not only do you have to check the color, you also have to match the shape! Once you got all of your pieces, put your animal together! We sure had fun, and we didn't even know we were practicing patience, identification of colors, matching skills, small motor control, spatial awareness, and hand-eye coordination!
Today...Edie had a chance to be the "leader"...
Tricky Mouse was back and he brought acorns with letters on them. We did a great job of identifying/recognizing letter names and sounds to find that tricky mouse (each time he hid from us)!
Today we introduced the letter "X"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down diagonal, big line down diagonal to write an "X"! Then we came up with words that start with "X"! (We quickly learned it is hard to find words (that we understand) that start with "X", so we wrote a couple that end in "X" too!)
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "X" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "X", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "X" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
There was a burial taking place during our first outside time, so we headed to the parking lot playground to show God's love to the family at the gravesite...

Our bunnies (with numbers on them) returned this week. These bunnies were going to help us practice our numbers and counting! With Mrs. Mudd, each friend was given a bunny, told her the number on it, then fed his/her bunny that number of jelly beans. We decided that real bunnies should not eat jelly beans, that would not be healthy!
With Mrs. Dose we practiced letter identification, letter sounds and proper formation of letters as we wrote letters in shaving cream with our fingers!
We helped Dr. Seuss put his number puzzle back together again! A great way to plan and work together while improving spatial awareness and recognizing numbers and their quantities.
We did get a chance to ride those bikes again and run in the wind...but, oops, we didn't get any pictures!
During Jesus Time today Zippy was so excited...he was able to zip his jacket all by himself. So excited we helped him celebrate by shouting "Woo Hoo!" We decided that's how the disciples must have felt when they pulled up a net FULL of fish after trusting in Jesus. This helped us remember that Jesus cares for us and is there for us, giving us everything we need. Woo Hoo!
