Thursday was great in preschool!
Some of our friends began the day creating a sign for our puppet theater! It reads, "Welcome to the Silly Stage". Each friend did a great job writing each word that I had written on another paper! Check it out the next time you are here (it's on the front of the puppet theater)!
Carter and Pierce (with some help from Korrinne) improved spatial awareness and letter recognition/identification, putting the Clifford puzzle together!
Sophia constructed the world as she sees it...her puppet was singing one of the songs we will sing at our Christmas service on 12/13!
Aubrey and Jonah concentrated as they made more ornaments for our class Christmas tree!
Kyler improved his hand-eye coordination as he created this "sunshine snowflake" from our candy construction set!
We finished morning meeting practicing our number recognition and quantifying skills while demonstrating different positional words (all early math skills)!
A few friends took a turn rolling dice, stated/counted the number of dots, and found that number on the yellow sheet! I read the positional word to him/her...then...
He/she put his/her body in the correct position in relation to our big Christmas box! Can you guess what each friend rolled?
Wait a minute...where did Sophia go?
Pastor Rouland led our chapel service today! We learned that Advent is here...the color of the church is now blue!! Do you see the fire on the parament for Advent? That flame is everywhere in the church. There is one on the altar. There are five on the advent wreath. There are many on each side of the room. There is a special baptism candle. Then, there is the most special of them all, the eternal flame. The eternal flame ALWAYS burns! All these flames are a reminder to you and me that God is ALWAYS with us!
Connor did an awesome job as messenger today, taking our chapel offering to the altar for us!
Time for a little science!!!
Scientist Mudd arrived today, with water, borax, and a snowflake (made of pipe cleaner)!
First we had to count how many cups of water it took to fill a jar (3).
Next, we needed to heat the water to boiling...scientist Mudd did this and reminded friends how careful we need to be around HOT water.
Third, while the water was heating in the microwave, each friend made his/her prediction, "What will happen when the pipe cleaner goes into the solution?"
Once the water was HOT, we counted out 9 tablespoons of borax and poured it into the water. We observed that the water looked white or cloudy as we were mixing the solution. Finally...it was time to test our prediction...Scientist Mudd dropped the snowflake into the jar! But, wait a minute, nothing happened, it just sat there! Our friends found out that this experiment is one that we get to practice WAITING! We have to wait to see what happens to the snowflake until tomorrow!
But, there was a little surprise today! The experiment from yesterday was ready! So, we found out that when the borax solution cools, it makes CRYSTALS!!! We made a crystal snowflake to hang at the top of our Christmas tree!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We explored the packing peanuts! One discovery we uncovered today...when you break them into smaller pieces...the little pieces stick to you (and everything) because of static electricity!
We improved our writing (and reading) skills as we wrote in our journals. Our friends were excited about the new Christmas words that we have added to our word wall this week!
Then...we did 2 other centers...but, they are TOP SECRET! (You might get to find out about them on Christmas Day?!?!?)
Our friends got to use the "big kid" playground for the first (or second for some) time this year! We first talked about how to correctly use each piece of equipment, then...time to PLAY!
We had a blast and did an awesome job following directions!
