Welcome back to preschool!!! I pray each of you had a blessed Christmas and Happy New year!
It was awesome to see all the little smiling faces this morning.
Check out what we did today!
Many of us found NEW playdoh and letter cookie cutters. Not only did we get a chance to strengthen the finger wrist and hand muscles, we also worked on recognizing and identifying letters!
Brady, Gibson, Will, and Rory were hard at work cutting straws and paper into small enough pieces to make it look like snow! A great way to practice using scissors and strengthen the finger, wrist, and hand muscles.
It was like we never had Christmas break...Korrinne, Sophia, and Natalia were hard at work making a "chocolate cake" out of legos today!
Jada decided...still a little sleepy, going to rest a bit more this morning!
We realized that the "Funny Theater" didn't have an open/closed sign. So, Thomas and Finley did a great job creating one for us!
Finley, Korrinne, and Harper were excited to see we had some "new to us" books in the classroom! Although they couldn't read the words to me, they told the story using clues from the pictures. The ability to do this is an early literacy skill. They quickly figured out from the picture on the cover it was going to be about Valentine's Day!
The ever so cold temps kept us inside for morning recess, but as always, we still had fun!
There was A LOT of running...
And, then some resting to visit with friends we missed over break!
During morning meeting we noticed that the month had changed to January and that we had a new pie graph to show our weather from December! We decided that we had the most cloudy days, and that rainy and windy tied for the least. Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill.
After looking at all the cloudy, rainy, and snowy days in December, we were excited to mark a "sunny" day (on our tally sheet) for our first day in January!
Morning meeting wrapped up with a favorite friend...Tricky Mouse! This week he brought shapes and numbers! When each friend guessed where Tricky Mouse was hiding they had to say the number and the shape. Success for some was knowing the number and the shape, success for others was knowing the shape and having friends help out with the number!
Happy 5th Birthday Vannah! Thank you for sharing your special day with us (especially since your birthday was during Christmas break)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
I needed help with my snowflake pictures! I knew each picture had a rhyming match and thought my friends could help me out. For some, success was working together with a friend to find a rhyming match. For others, success was finding the match on his/her own! (Rhyming is an early literacy skill)
After seeing the forecast for this week, how could we not have a dance party to...FROZEN songs?!?! Perfect for improving large motor control and getting the wiggles out!
We improved small motor control and hand-eye coordination as we weaved string in and out of lacing cards.
Oh no...the buttons were missing from our snowmen! With Miss Lindsay, a friend rolled the dice and counted the dots. Then, everyone added that number of buttons to the snowman. For some we left the buttons on the snowman and had to decide on the next roll if we needed to add or remove buttons to match the next number that was rolled!
We headed to the gym...
First a little stretching to get warmed up!
Then we got to choose...balls or hula hoops!!!
But wait, what was that sound??? Mrs. Helmkamp was blowing something up...
A gigantic ball...with 1 important rule:
You can roll it with your hands and run after it...no kicking and no laying on it (we don't want it to pop or for a friend to get hurt!)
We absolutely LOVED this!!!
During Jesus Time today we learned about Jesus' first time visiting the temple. While at the temple Jesus sat with teachers, learning about God's word. We learn about God's word from The Bible. The Bible is God's word. It tells us how much God loves us and about Jesus forgiving us!
